Animal Sacrifice..

A topic turning heads towards the pagan community lately is the notion of animal sacrifice. In one story Santeria was the cover for a slaughter of 500 animals and it seems increasingly such stories are popping up, often in disgust. As far as I have understood it, the proper procedure for sacrificing an animal begins with a humane, quick slaughter and the animal becomes a sacrifice a deity or deities. Afterwards the animal is consumed with not a bit wasted. I consider this form of animal sacrifice perfectly acceptable. In fact, I can see no problem with this whatsoever! How is this any different from when our grandmothers and grandfathers used to kill their own livestock? How is this any different from people today killing their own food? The animal serves both spiritual and physical purposes in the forms of sacrifice and nourishment.

What I have a problem with is torturing and inhumanely killing a non-livestock animal (or any animal for that matter) and leaving the remains to rot. Such are great abuses which I can in no form support.

I hope some people realize there is a difference and though I could never sacrifice an animal, I do support the rights of it to be done properly and humanely!
